What is oracle?
Oracle decks are tools for reflection, which, like tarot cards, offer insight about your past, present, and future, as well as certain situations. The major difference between oracle and tarot is that unlike the structure of tarot, oracle cards are more loose and interpretive. In fact, oracle cards can actually be better to use for beginners, as well as those working on their intuition.
One of the oldest oracle decks was published by Hooper in 1775. These decks had descriptive pictures, however, no guidebook was included. Since then, a wide variety of oracle decks have been created. These decks normally have light, inspirational imagery, which is another reason why so many beginners are drawn to them. Unlike with tarot, which can be misinterpreted, there isn’t as much of a negative connotation associated with oracle cards from outside the spiritual community. And, although beginners do like oracle decks, choosing a deck is really a matter of personal preference. Many experienced cartomancers also enjoy the freedom that oracle decks bring.
